## Simple Steps To Set Up NoIP Backup MX

Due to the ever-increasing risk of cyberattacks and the possibility of networking equipment malfunction, organizations must use [backup email servers](/content/backup-mx/backup-email-server) to backup MX records using [postfix backup MX](/content/backup-mx/postfix-backup-mx) and NoIP backup MX. _These tools work by directing the emails to the user when the primary mail server is down_.

### Steps To Setup NoIP Backup MX

If NoIP is not set as the user’s default [managed DNS provider](https://social.dnsmadeeasy.com/blog/why-use-managed-dns-provider/), then it is required to set priorities to MX records, which are Mail.yourdomain.com with priority 5, Mail2.no-ip.com with priority 15, and Mail1.no-ip.com with priority 10\. These **backup MX records** can be set by logging into the NoIP account and are found under the Hosts/ Redirection tab. _The incoming emails will not be queued up and directed to the inbox until the [backup MX records](/content/backup-mx/backup-mx-record) are set up for relevant actions_.

_NoIP backup MX ensures that no emails are lost due to downtime of primary [backup MX](/content/backup-mx)_. It holds the emails and delivers them once the primary server is available. Moreover, the NoIP **backup MX continually** checks for the server availability at an interval of 5 minutes and holds the emails up to 7 days.
